Beginner Snowshoe Hike (1A). Donner State Memorial Park (Sacramento Group). On this snowshoe outing we’ll start behind Historical Donner State Memorial Park and hike into Cold Stream Canyon partially following the old emigrant trail. Hike stats: 4 miles (round trip), elevation gain 250', starting elevation 5,950’. Hikers must be in reasonably good condition. I encourage those who have not been to stop and visit the Donner State Park Museum afterward. The museum tells the compelling story of the ill fated Donner Party who emigrated across the country in covered wagons only to be trapped by blinding snow over the Sierras at Donner Lake. Bring the essentials, including snowshoes & waterproof boots, water, snacks, lunch, layered clothing due to changeable weather conditions and $$ for carpool drivers. No minors. No dogs. Rain, snow, and/or chain controls cancels. Hike limited to 15. I will email the details about the meeting spot to those signed-up about a week prior to the hike! Contact leader for details. Leader: Christina Vetter email@example.com.
