Brisk Morning Walk (1A). Davis

Brisk 4-mile loop via Davis greenbelts/bike paths. May include Davis ponds, UC Davis campus, or arboretum. Meet 7 a.m. at Peet’s Coffee (1A) Market Place Shopping Center, corner of Sycamore Lane & West Covell Blvd. (from Hwy. 113, exit east on West Covell Blvd. Not limited to singles. Leader: M. C. Evening Arboretum Walk (1A). UC Davis Arboretum

We will hike along Putah Creek on the UCD campus. Three miles on paved trails. Bring flashlights. Optional dinner afterwards at a casual restaurant in Davis. Day Hike (2B/3C). Gilmore Lake / Mt Tallac in Desolation Wilderness

We’ll hike to Gilmore Lake with an optional ascent to Mt. Tallac while the others remain at Gilmore Lake to relax and look around. We’ll see wonderful high Sierra forest, lakes, and granite. From Mt. Tallac we’ll see amazing views of Lake Tahoe. Hike is 8 miles with 1,800' elevation gain to Gilmore Lake. With optional ascent to Mt. Tallac it is 11 miles and 3000’ of gain. Hike is advertised for ages 18-40s, but everyone is welcome. Optional dinner after. Limited to 12. Chance of rain cancels. Email or call leader for reservation and meeting info. Day Hike (2B). Grouse and Smith Lake

Hike in the Sierra's Desolation Wilderness.  We will start at the Twin Lakes trailhead and head up 2,000 ft. to Grouse, Hemlock, and then Smith Lakes.  We will eat lunch at Grouse Lake.  Learn about the flora and geology of the high Sierra.  The total mileage is 6 miles but this is a moderately strenuous hike as we start at 7,000 feet and climb to 9,000 ft. elevation.  The views from Smith Lake should be good with lots of water and good wildflower viewing.  Forecast of thunderstorms or rain cancels.  Limited to 12.   E-mail leader at greg.j.hoyt@sbcglobal.net for reservations and meeting place.  Last resort, call me at 916-989-5377.   Leader, Greg Hoyt. *

Day Hike (2A). Olmstead Loop Trail – Auburn Recreational Area

Hike is 8.5 miles with 350’ elevation gain. Learn about the geologic outcroppings in the area and the creation/history of the trail. Dogs on leash allowed. Meet at 10 a.m. at the Roseville Park and Ride off of Eureka Road. Bring lunch, water and $$ for your driver. Leader keeps very slow pace. Day Hike (3C). Grouse Ridge to Fall Creek Mountain and Five Lakes Basin - Added

Off 80 and Bowman Rd. Beautiful wilderness area with many lakes, one every 1/2 mile, about 15 miles and about 2,500 gain, must be in excellent shape, if you haven't hiked with me before tell me what hikes you've done recently. Day Hike (2A). Crooked Lakes Trail

This is the leader's choice for best possible high-country hike for hikers who are concerned about their ability to go the distance at altitude. 8 mi., only about 400’ gain on gently-graded trails, this very pleasant hike features five beautiful alpine lakes, one after another, so anyone who begins to feel any fatigue can just relax at any of the lakes and wait for the group to return. Also an excellent hike for swimming. Pace is just a bit on the slow side of moderate. Meet at Roseville Park & Ride at 8:00 a.m.. Approx. 3 miles of dirt road to get to trailhead. Day Hike (3C). Deadwood Peak

This hike near Carson Pass tops out at 9,846 and will be about 11 miles and at least 2,200’ of gain. The hike is limited to 8. Bring the 10 essentials, 3 quarts water, lunch, and snacks. Day Hike (2A). Crystal Caves near Summerset

We will hike (8 to 10 miles with less than 1000' elevation gain) down to the Cosumnes River. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at Hazel Rd. Park and Ride. Leader: Alex MacCollom 916.978.9470 (call before 9:00 p.m.).

Younger Adults Day Hike (1B). Mount Judah

Moderately strenuous 4.6 total mile loop hike to the summit of Mount Judah (8,243’) near Sugar Bowl ski area. Spectacular view from the summit. 1,155’ elev. gain. Bring lunch, water, jacket, hiking boots and money for optional carpooling. Rain cancels. No dogs. No reservation needed. For ages 18-40s, but all are welcome. Meet 9 a.m. @ Horseshoe Bar Rd. Day Hike (2B+) Vallejo Ferry to San Francisco Stair-Step 8 miles

Meet 8:00 a.m. at Mace Blvd. Park & Ride in Davis. Prizes for sighting San Francisco’s wild parrots. Ferry Building, Embarcadero, Levi Plaza, Telegraph Hill, Coit Tower murals, Washington Square, Russian Hill, San Francisco Art Institute (Diego Rivera mural), Aquatic Park, Hyde Street Victorian Park, Fort Mason, Greens Restaurant (take-out), Marina Green, Palace of Fine Arts, Presidio, Pacific Heights, Cow Hollow. Lake Paddling & Camping, Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park for Canoes & Kayaks- Added

Day Hike (1A). North Fork American River

Approximately 6 miles and 800’ elevation gain. This hike starts at the confluence of the north and middle forks of the American River and crosses the historic No Hands Bridge, climbs towards Auburn, lunch at the Robie Point Overlook and returns to our cars. There are nice views of the river along the way. Bring layered clothing, lunch, water and $$ for your driver and optional early dinner. September 19, Saturday

Day Hike (2A). Jenkinson Lake-Sly Park

We will hike about 7 miles mainly along one side of Jenkinson Lake. An undulating trail gives beautiful lake views while providing a lot of shade. Jenkinson Lake was formed by damming the outlet of Hazel Creek and bringing water through a tunnel from a drainage to the south. Lunch by the lake. Rain cancels. Meet 9:30 a.m. at Hazel Park & Ride. Lake Paddle, Lake Tahoe

This is a Class I kayak or canoe paddle at Nevada Beach heading north to Cave Rock. We can skirt the shoreline. We will learn about the local geography and can discuss local environmental impacts. This is an out and back. Must be able to paddle at a moderate pace all day. Bring food, water, boat, paddles, and life vest. Fee to enter and launch at the Park. No dogs, no inflatable boats. Day Hike (3B). Maud Lake/Rockbound Pass (Desolation Wilderness)

This is a moderately strenuous hike on a trail from Wrights Lake to Maud Lake and Rockbound Pass. 12 miles (round trip), elevation gain 1700', starting at 6900’.  We’ll check out the outstanding scenery and learn about the late season wildflowers.  This is NOT a leisurely hike!  It will be moderately paced over a rocky trail with significant elevation gain.  Hikers must be in good condition.  Bring the essentials, including water, snacks, lunch, layered clothing due to changeable weather conditions, and $$ for carpool drivers.  Hike limited to 12.  No dogs. 4.6 miles with 300’ elevation gain. This is the nation’s first wheelchair accessible wilderness trail. Learn about the Flume that makes up a portion of the hike route. Very scenic. Day Hike (2A). Tomales Bluff – Pt. Reyes

Hike is under 1,000 ft. elevation gain and about 10 miles round trip out to Tomales Pt. starting at the historic McClure’s Beach-Pierce Ranch. Sightings of resident Tule Elk possible. Bring layered clothing in case of cool weather, lunch and water. Meet at 11th & P – 8:00 AM. Day Hike (1B). Slick Rock

Slick Rock is a granite dome on the western slope of the Crystal Range. This hike is tougher than it looks. There is no trail. The first half is bushwhacking through heavy chaparral; the second half is a steep climb up the shoulder of the dome. Hike stats: 3 miles (round trip), elevation gain 1100', starting elevation 6100’. Hikers must be in good physical condition. Bring the essentials, including 2-3 quarts water, snacks, lunch, sturdy hiking boots, layered clothing due to changeable weather conditions and $$ for carpool drivers.  Hike limited to 15.  No dogs. Day Hike (3C). Yosemite National Park, Clouds Rest - Added

This is a difficult hike from Tenaya Lake (8000 ft.) to the top of Clouds Rest (9922 ft.) a distance of 7 miles one way. Hikers must carry the 10 essentials with at least 2.5 liters of water. Hike leader will have a water filter pump on this hike. Due to length of time to drive to the trailhead, meeting time at Groveland for car pooling is 7:30 a.m. Sponsored by the Tuolumne Group of the Sierra Club. Day Hike (1B).  Woods, Winnemucca and Round Top Lakes (elevation:  8600 ft)

Searching for Fall Color in the Mokelumne Wilderness near Carson Pass, we will begin hike at Woods Lake and hike 4.8 mile loop (elevation gain approximately 1200 ft)  We will not be climbing to Round Top Peak on this trip.  On trail, we will pass remains of an "arrastra", a device used in mining in this area's past.  Bring 10 essentials (plan for changeable weather) and money for gas, parking ($5/car) and optional dinner afterward.  Rain cancels.  Call/email (preferred) for reservation and meeting info.  Leader:  Christine Canelo, 916.769.5690 (before 9 pm and after September 21) or auntchris@hotmail.com. *

The lake is small but pretty at about 7000'. We may have to share the trail with mountain bikes. We will learn the history behind the name of the Lake. Cronan Ranch Loop – South Fork American River

5 miles and 500’ elevation gain. This easy loop trail provides a nice ramble through oak, riparian woodlands and foothill grasslands, as well as direct access to the south fork of the American River. Learn about and see the historic buildings used as western movie sets on this hike. Bring lunch, water, layered clothing and $$ for your driver.
