Really Brrrisk Morning Walk (1A). Davis. Meet 7:00 a.m. at Peet's Coffee in the north Davis Market Place off of Covell Blvd. & Sycamore (at Hwy 113). Walking distance is about 4.5 miles in 90 minutes. Return to Peet's at about 8:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to walk. Rain will cancel. We may see wild turkeys, Guinea fowl, geese, goslings, raptors, jackrabbits, coyotes, and other Davis wildlife. Walk along greenbelts, ponds, fields, ditches, dirt paths, gardens ― and sometimes Village Homes, UCD campus or Arboretum. Day Hike (2C). Red Lake Emigrant Trail to Elephant Back - Hwy 88. This hike begins on a toll road for the emigrants built from Red Lake to the present day Carson Pass. We will look for the Devil’s Ladder that the emigrants used to cross the Sierra. We will visit the historical brass plaques erected by the Odd Fellows, another plaque for the Fremont Party of Kit Carson, and Broken Hand Fitzpatrick; and trees with notches used to pull wagons up the steep hill. Day Hike (2A). Angela Lake (from Boreal Ridge). A 7-mile hike with 700’ elevation gain along a lovely trail. Mixed shade and sun. Overlooks of Donner Lake where the historic Donner Party camped. NEW! Day Hike (2C) Emigrant Lake. This is a ‘moderate’ late-season day-hike in the Mokelumne Wilderness for lunch at Emigrant Lake. Approximately 8.5 miles round-trip; elevation gain about 1,200’. The hike will be moderately paced and hikers must be in very good to excellent condition due to the elevation (7,500’ – 8,700’) of the area we’ll be hiking. Bring the essentials, including sturdy boots, water, snacks, lunch, layered clothing due to changeable weather conditions (afternoon thundershowers are common!), and $$ for carpool drivers. New. Day Hike (2A). Maude Lake (Sacramento Group) This is a hike from Wrights Lake to Maude Lake in the Desolation Wilderness. Hike stats: 9 miles (round trip), elevation gain 800', starting elevation 6900’. We’ll check out the outstanding scenery and the late season wildflowers. We’ll also discuss the history and geology of the area. The hike will be moderately paced over a rocky trail. Hikers must be in good condition. Bring the essentials, including water, snacks, lunch, layered clothing due to changeable weather conditions, and $$ for carpool drivers. Hike limited to 12. No minors. No dogs. Rain or snow cancels. Day Hike (1A). Auburn. This is a very interesting and easy 5-6 mile tour of Old Town. The pace varies from slow to moderate due to several points of interest, including the climb to the courthouse (est. elev. gain to be not more than 500’) and historical museums. Bring the usual essentials, including lunch and/or buy at the farmers’ market. Not limited to singles. More than a slight chance of rain cancels. Meet 8:30 a.m. outside, at the NW corner of the Big Lots store, located on La Riviera & Watt. Please park on the far west side of the parking lot. Day Hike (2B). Lake Tahoe – Rubicon Trail. Join us for a beautiful hike around the shores of Lake Tahoe. We will start at the Emerald Bay Overlook and hike to D.L. Bliss State Park where we’ll have lunch on the beach. The hike is 9 miles and 1,200’ elev. gain. Bring lunch, water (2 quarts), and money for your driver and optional dinner. This relatively flat hike follows along Loon Lake then climbs to Spider Lake through open forest, brush, and boulders near Desolation Wilderness. Optional dinner after. Limited to 20. Among the places we will visit are the Taylor Creek marsh, the Lake Tahoe shoreline, the Tallac Historic Site, Rabe Meadows, and Castle Rock. This hike follows the PCT above the north shore of Echo Lakes and then ascends to Echo Peak for outstanding views of Lake Tahoe and the Crystal Range. Hike stats: 10 miles (round trip), elevation gain 1500', starting elevation 7300’. Hikers must be in good condition. Day Hike (1A). Fair Oaks Bluffs. This close-by hike provides a moderate workout and great views of Lake Natoma from the bluffs on the north side of the lake. Part of the hike will be on the bike trail and part will be on a relatively unknown trail. Approximately 6 miles and 300 feet elevation gain. Expect to be back at the meeting spot around 1:00 p.m. More than a light rain cancels. Optional lunch afterward at a nearby restaurant. Not limited to singles.
