It's very strenuous, but this is a popular outing. It has 1600 feet of elevation loss and gain and 5 miles of canyon bottom. The participants if not in good physical condition can find themselves hiking out in the dark or worse!

GIANT GAP

The reward is a lengthy and wild section of the North Fork of the American River. It offers lots of rock scrambling, floating through big pools and rock walls of Giant Gap.

GIANT GAP

This outing requires a shuttle. The trail down is the Green Valley Trail and is in good condition. The exit trail is the Pickering Bar Trail and is not a maintained trail. Near the bottom of both trails the poison oak gets a little thick. You'll need long pants. As noted earlier this outing can finish up in the dark, so it is a good idea to have a flashlight and some extra food in your pack.
