This outing takes us through numerous pools and gorges. However, its most notable feature is the ample mining ruins. Our route takes us past a small old penstock power generator used to electrify the Dorer Mine.

Further down canyon we visit the Southern Cross Mine which had horizontal shafts on both sides of the river. There is lots of gold rush era mining equipment littered about.

EUCHRE BAR

On this outing we enter and exit the canyon on the Euchre Bar Trail, it has 1600 feet of elevation loss and gain. When we reach the bottom of the canyon we cross the river on a narrow footbridge and hike 2.4 miles to Humbug Bar.

EUCHRE BAR

The poison oak is very prevalent here and long pants are recommended. We eat lunch at Humbug Creek, then inflate our air mattresses and float and scramble the 2.4 miles back to Euchre Bar. At the footbridge we deflate our air mattress, fill the water bottle and hike the 1600 feet of elevation gain back up to our cars at the trailhead.
