Trip 11: Box Canyon #1, Middle Fork Yuba River, Level 3 Day Trip.

This is a rather high 5000 foot elevation gorge scramble, with no poison oak and nice trails. All the pools are beautiful, clear and will be inviting you to swim. However, the water is cold. If you do not have a wetsuit, an air mattress is a good alternative.

BOX CANYON

There are no difficult obstacles on this section of the river, and all the gorges are easily negotiated. There are lots of springs just up canyon from the exit trail which turn the water from cold to much colder. But it is really good to drink.

BOX CANYON

The trails into and out of the canyon are in good condition. There is about 1600 feet of elevation loss and gain on the hike in and out.
